Ladies League – Meet A Past President
Darla Ewer was born and raised in a small town in Indiana, and spent most of her life in small Midwest towns. While she was very active in her church, school and athletics, she never had the opportunity to learn and pursue golf. Darla had a series of customer service positions, and landed in Clarksville, Tennessee with Anheuser-Busch Company. Then the American Dream happened: she started at the bottom with a position in operations and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Relations and Business Management.
As a result of her extensive people skills, came the transition to Account Manager with Anheuser-Busch Recycling in St Louis, MO. Darla was introduced to golf as part of her career when treating customers to a game of golf as part of the job, in addition to business meetings and dinners. Through this position, she met her husband (and former customer) Bret who lived in Great Falls, MT. She moved there, and they married in Glacier National Park.
There, Darla began work for the American Red Cross as a Donor Recruitment Rep with Blood Services. Thirteen years later she left as the Donor Recruitment Manager for the state of Montana. She loved traveling across the state and working with all of the wonderful volunteers who provided such a monumental service. She continues to donate blood and has passed the 10-gallon mark. Darla was very heavily involved with the Uptown Optimist Club in Great Falls serving as a board member for years as well as President and Lt Governor for the Alberta, Montana, Saskatchewan and Northern Wyoming District. One of the many youth programs they sponsored included junior golf.
You can see all of Darla’s positions were about people. She loves people, and she loves traveling.
So how did Darla and Bret get to Eagle River? After selling their home in Great Falls, they traveled full time in a motorhome for nearly four years. It was during these travels that they visited friends in Rhinelander and fell in love with Eagle River. They bought their cabin in 2017, and Darla joined the Eagle River Ladies Golf League (ERLGL). She started serving as Secretary and then as President for two years. She is also the coordinator of the Horse Race, which is the final event each year followed by the Fall meeting/banquet. She has always loved the outdoors and golf is like a walk in the park!
In the Winter, Darla and Bret reside in Alamo Country Club, in Alamo Texas. They have a 9-hole course through the middle of the community and play golf four to five times a week. She is the also a past President of their Ladies League. They have volunteered at the Texas Valero Open for the past four years. Seeing the pros play in person gave her a deeper appreciation for the game.
Darla has a passion for the outdoors and loves to golf and travel with Bret, but her greatest joy comes from her family! Together with their seven children, they have twelve grandchildren, four great- grandchildren, with another on the way! Being together with them, hearing “Grandma Darla” and creating memories fills her heart. They feel so very blessed to feel so much love every single day!
