Ladies League – Meet Your Officers – Secretary
Lyn Croak – Secretary – Committed to Community
Community has been a focus through all of Lyn’s life. She finds fulfillment in stepping up to the plate (or ball) when needed. With the closure of the Lake Forest course in 2022, our league’s membership grew, and Lyn was asked to join the board as Secretary. Lyn viewed it as an honor to be asked to represent the new members from Lake Forest, being her first year in the league.
Lyn grew up in a farming family in Southern California’s Imperial Valley and started golfing with her parents when she was 10 years old. She was able to golf often with them, improving her game, which allowed her to join the high school team.
Lyn’s education included high school and college in San Diego, as well as a brief experience in England. She initially pursued art, then interior design earning a degree from University of Arizona. Her work and career pursuits were extensive, which always focused on people and community. Her first job was as a florist, with part time work in interior design as well as a tour guide. Most of her career was in retail management, including being a buyer for a high-end home furnishing store and several store management positions. After 20 years in retail, Lyn returned to school and earned a teaching credential. Her most fulfilling job was in a community school in her county, with students who had been expelled from the regular school district for very bad behavior. It was very challenging, but she loved trying to get the kids on the right path.
So how did Lyn get to us in Northern Wisconsin? Yes, a man was involved. Lyn met her husband Jeff in San Diego after her college years. Jeff was there getting away from the Madison Winters. After marriage, they settled down in Imperial County, California, to carry on the family farming business and raise two daughters. In their retirement they started traveling to see the country and visit family in Wisconsin. While traveling Up North Wisconsin one Summer, they found that Eagle River was calling their name. They answered and became part time residents now residing full time on Voyageur Lake.
Lyn’s contributions to all the communities she has been involved with are too numerous to list. The ERLGL is better and lucky to have Lyn as our Secretary.
